Default :) South Shooting Site :)

Thought I'd start a new thread on the Positive of the south shooting site.

Not much trouble getting in if you had 4x4 or decent SUV. One person in 2x4 didn't make it in.

Was there today from about 10am through 1pm, great place to shoot. Man was it busy, people at every range down there. Everyone seemed to be safe and there were a lot of children there with adults practicing with .22's etc.

It is in Douglas County, just over the border from Teller County.

When we left, Douglas County Sheriff was there too, visiting with some folks at one of the first ranges. Didn't appear to be any trouble, was just watching some folks target shooting.

Didn't take any pictures, was too busy playing with weapons.

I made it down to the site today. The drive took longer than I anticipated, but it wasn't a horrible drive. There was one other family there when we showed up, but they left shortly after we arrived, and we had the whole place to ourselves. As was reported in the other South Site thread, there was quite a bit of trash there. We picked up what we could, and spent almost an hour picking up brass and shotgun shells. We picked up WAY more than we shot and filled a McDonald's bag with shotgun shells, even though we didn't even bring a shotgun with us. It sure would be nice if everyone would try to pick up more than they shot...

We tried taking a more interesting route home - Forest Roads back through towards Castle Rock - but found out the hard way that Rampart Range Rd is closed headed northbound. That turned into about a 90-min detour south through Monument.

Everything was covered in snow when I was there, didn't have any idea of the trash, but did pick up a few shotgun shells poking through the snow. Hopefully it will stay clean.

I didn't try the rampart road, figured it might be closed. Good thing I didn't try.

Was there today for a few. Needed 4x4 for sure. Only one other group was there. It felt like it was in the 60's, nice and warm.

Which way did you take? Through Sedalia or from 285?

Neither. I live off of the High Grade, so I took Foxton down. Nice drive and not alot of snow or ice on the roads.

is it something where a standard jeep could make it in or do you need a big truck and a lift?
