So I went to the Fort Collins Roadless Initiative meeting last night (this affects OHV and dirtbike use in the forests and is why I went) and Ben Pearlman (Boulder County Commissioner) was there and spoke before the panel about Roadless areas. He brought up the latest Left Hand Canyon fire. (why I don't know since it is definitely not a roadless area).
Basically, he misrepresented the latest Left Hand Canyon fire location in order to further his agenda, saying it was in the "carnage canyon" area where heavy OHV and shooting activities occur, when it was actually at a place higher up the canyon, and calling tracer bullets "some kind of new fangled bullets that give off sparks" trying to make it seem like they are a new and evil type of ammunition. (Granted, you shouldn't be shooting then in the Forest, but still....)
Anyway, I know everyone here is pissed about the fire getting started by some idiot shooting tracers, but I just wanted to make sure everyone knows the first hand effects of behavior like this. It does not go unnoticed, and even worse, the ding-dongs here in Boulder will use stuff like that to their advantage on other issues even if they have to twist the facts to do it.
