Results of her maiden voyage .................

I got to test fire her this weekend, put 120 rounds down the barrel just to zero the SPOT red dot sight. ARMS 40L-SP rear sight is on its way and an Aimpoint will be added later. She shoots real nice; I'm super happy with the results.

    Nice.

    Isn't the M93 the schnizzit?

Which front sight did you use?

M93B is grand. Solid and with comfortable cheek weld.
Front sight is YHM flip-up on a YHM gas block. Rear is an A.R.M.S. #40L-SP. Good combo.

First off, Beautiful rifle! Really nice work on the build too and your documentation photos are top notch.

Just one question, and I don't mean this to be a cut by any streatch of the imagination. Why did you go with the old original 3 prog flash suppressor, on a rifle that is otherwise employs every high-tech piece of kit on the market? It's just that at first glance it looks a little out of place. Just wondering.

    Thanks for the compliments.

Regarding the flash hider, I haven't been into AR's for that long and I actually didn't know that it was an old style. I wanted something small and simple; the taper caught my eye because I actually heven't seen one like this before. I thought the taper would flow with the rest of the rifle.

Actually you're right, the taper does flow with the lines of the rifle. I also stand corrected, the origional 3-prong was a little smaller, but the one you have is the main one the early model M-16A's used, Viet Nam era. After that they went to the Bird Cage style because the open prongs tended to get snagged on vines and packed with mud when crawling through the jungle.

Later, with the advent of the M-16A2's, they closed one slot of the bird cage, added a jam nut and called it a compensator. I personally didn't notice much difference in performance other than it didn't kick up quite as much dust when firing prone.

Many of the aftermarket compensators out there, while they may lend a lot to the performance, tend to have a look of their own that can distract from the overall look of the rifle. My 2 cents anyway.

BTW: I'm looking to build up a new AR, now that I'm retired and had to turn in my M-16. I did a little looking around today on line for the MEGA Receiver. Where's a good place to pick one up these days? I read a couple of reviews and they sound like one of the best ones out there.

Congrats on your retirement and have fun on your build. I had alot of fun. And thanks for the brief history lesson.
I got my Mega receivers from Carrico'z. Other good places (when available) are Rainier Arms and Coleman Tyler.

Be patient when looking for availability as Mega Machine Shop, an aerospace parts manufacturer, does not produce the AR recievers very quickly. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips and links. I really like what I've read on the Mega receivers, but it seems that everyone is out of stock on those just now. No big deal, I'm still saving my pennies any way.

Thanks also for this terrific thread. I love seeing the process of the build and you've done a great job with yours.
