    Default Ruger Gunsite Scout

Took the Ruger out to the Mountains today, and I love this little gun.

I didn't shoot for groups, so no MOAs for you yet, but it did hit what I was aiming at functionally.

I took it out in out-of-box configuration this morning. This gun is usual tank-like Ruger. Very solid, very nice bolt, and a much much better trigger than I expected. Smooth right out of the box, and not too light. I took all of the stock extenders out, too used to ARs, worth note with this, I am 6'2"

Went shooting in the mountians, about 8000-9000 feet and took it on a 5-ish mile hike in rough snowy terrain to get to where we pulled the trigger. Near the South Site. It was in the 20s today in the mountains with about 3-6 inches of snow on the ground, so I couldn't see my impacts very well if I didn't impact where we were aiming, We were shooting out to 900 meters.

It is just iron sights now, which work, but don't do the caliber justice. They were very functional and fast within 200 meters.

The sights also sit very low to the bore, no stock packs without using a scope.

The weight and swing of the gun earn it a lot of credit in my book, nice to have an M4 sized package with a 308 punch. This trip has been very hard on the guns we take and we normally hike much further, and the weight, size, and power of the rifle is very heavily criticized.

Overall, I am a big fan of this gun, and fully understand the "you can only have one gun" concept behind it.

In terms of changes I will make-
-I am going to throw glass on it, 308 just deserves it, I am aiming for 2-7 power, give or take
-Putting a brake on there, I could care less about muzzle flash on this gun, but I would like to be quicker on bolt manipulations. The recoil was fine, I just have a little BRD for this change.
-a nice shooting sling is merited

Nice write-up, It looks alot smaller than I thought it would be.

man I was thinking the same thing. Nice and compact, would be sweet for hunting in the black timber for deer or elk.

I picked it up from 5280, I paid about $750, which is right about normal, it seemed. It was their only one too.
I think Protect (industry partner here) can get them for less too. I asked him but saw one on a shelf and got impatient, maybe a little irrational.

It reminds me of a M1 carbine, just a little heavier but just as handy, and the same kind of feel.

I really can't say enough good things about this little gun and couldn't build something comparable out of a surplus gun for the same price.

I should of mentioned it has mean checkering on the wood, very nice in gloves.
