    Default What's your SHTF scenario?

Ok folks, it's tinfoil hat time.

I'm curious what kind of SHTF scenarios people are imagining as most likely. A second question, which scenario shakes you to the core.

Here's a few categories to get the juices flowing.
    -Natural disaster: Earthquake, Tsunami, Hurricane...
-Science fiction: Asteroid hit, alien attack...
-Attack: Terorist, other government, WMD chaos...
    -Unrest: Rising of the masses..
-Loss of rights: Our government cracks down on us citizens...
-Pandemic: A modern version of the 1918 epidemic...

I am usually one to feel pretty safe that the status will keep on quo'ing. Having read 'The Hot Zone' and 'The Coming Plague', I've been concerned that avian flu could get out of hand. Here's how it might go:
Transmission of the virus to humans becomes more effective, followed by effective human to human transmission. It spreads to major and minor air travel hubs within weeks. Hospitals become overwhelmed rapidly and panic is widespread. People self quarantine except to obtain basic needs. Production and delivery of food and fuels becomes compromised or fails massively. Violent seizure of supplies is at minimum a concern. It becomes impossible to maintain order. Delivery of electricity and water becomes compromised or fails. How things settle back into some kind of order is unclear, but the disease will eventually run its course and there will be survivors.

I guess that's my most likely one and the part that scares me is organized bands of thugs seizing supplies.

Next topic is how to be one of the survivors.

I just try to be a boy scout and be prepared. I have food and water. The vehicles are not at home on empty. I have plenty of ammo to last a while. I don't spend time dreading an apocalyptic event.

I wish technology solved people issues. It seems to just reveal them.

I'm kind of with Greg on this, I believe that tinfoil should be used for cooking, Not head wear.

I don't believe tha OBL is going to lead AQ into the parking lot.

I live high enough on a hill that, if I have to start to worry about flood waters, its pretty much too late for the rest of Denver.

A Tornado hasn't been close too these parts since 1981, about all it did was take a few shingles off and destroy a shed or two.

Snow, it would have to be something far worse than the blizzard of '82 to slow Me down. That is If I chose to go out in it.

As far as a plauge or some such is concerned, mostly overblown media hype IMO anyway. But, if it does happen just take the proper precautions and it should be alright.

I figure when all is said and done, when Your number is up, Your number is up and somebody else is going to benifit from all of Your survival supplies.
