Interesting thing about that Rainbow Falls fire....Woodland dispatched NE Teller as well as Woodland Fire to the scene, and then a structure fire was reported in Woodland near Morning Star. Woodland requested Divide Fire to respond , which is a volunteer fire department. Most of Divide was in a training in Lake George, so they left the training to go to Woodland. They respond to Woodland and there was a State Patrol directing traffic. State Patrol stops every car and tells them what's going on and is supposed to be keeping people away, but lets them all into the fire area while it directs the Fire Engine past instead of to the fire.
Because of this debotchery the structure fire takes approximately 10 minutes longer burning and gets to a wood pile and starts to burn up the hill.
One of my personal pet peeves is people not yielding for emergency vehicles. It stemed from my tour in Law Enforcement. A fire engine is a large truck and needs room; also these guys don't go for joy rides with the lights and sirens on. If you see any emergency vehicle with the lights and sirens on...think...is someone you know dieing, or is your place on fire....make room and pull over. For people who have failed to yield and pull over there have been civil lawsuits filed and won for damages to property as well as wrongful death. You can and will be found liable.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.
Sounds like State Patrol wasn't doing so hot there either. But I agree with you on emergency vehicles, and I'm not even in that business. If they gotta get through, get the fuck outta the way. [poke]

There is no such entity as "Woodland Fire". :P OK, now that I'm done picking on you I'll be kind enough to explain. Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District covers Woodland Park. The city has never had their own FD. They've thought about it a few times, but never could justify the cost. NETCFPD is part paid and part volunteer. The initial response from the paid guys is usually quick, but the volunteers had their lights taken away when they went part paid. Now, they drive to the station with traffic, so their response is quite a bit slower than when it was all volunteer. If the first truck is all that is needed, you're good. If you need more, pray.ops: Karl.
Sorry, I should have clarified...when I worked for City of Woodland, we refered to NE Teller as the volunteers, and Woodland Fire as the paid members, but Karl is correct; there is no such animal as Woodland Fire.
