Default Since there's no shotgun forum.....

I saw in the CDNN catalog that they have FN 12ga pump guns with 8rnd mags and 18" barrels for $299. From my research this is a pretty good price for a pump 'tactical' shotgun.

But I haven't heard much about FN shotguns.

So edjimicate me, should I look for one of these locally or go with something like a Remmington 870 tactical model or a Mossberg 500 tactical? IIRC the Mossberg 500s that are "tactical" are 6 shot for an 18" bbl or 8 shot for a 20" bbl, which means you trade capacity for weight and bulkyness. I also know that there's billions uppon billions of accessories for the Remmington and Mossberg shotguns, and I'm not sure if the FN ones are similar enough to use those or if I'd have to scour the EE various places to find one.

Of course, lacking the money to make a purchase right now makes this all an excercise in learning more than anything, I wish I had $300-500 burning a hole in my pocket. Oh, and I'm not planning on using a shotgun for hunting birds so the shorter the barrel the better, and double barrels are about 5 times my theoretical budget. I'm thinking more along the lines of 3gun matches and possibly elk/deer hunting but most likely just 3gun and blasting at the monthly shoots.

FN has been running the Winchester factory that is closing and that has me wondering if the FN shotgun is a Winchester design.

    870 Tactical or Police Magnum
Really, it's the smart choice. Tons of accessories, 10 million owners can't be wrong and the action can be smooth.

I have a mossburg 500 pursuader I got the model with a 20" barrell so it will hold one more round than the 18" barrell model. I payed $240 for it brand new.

The Serbu super shorty that Alan has ordered for me is also a mossburg 500.

I have a 870 express and they are great guns also.

I was going to get an 870, but got a great deal on a Mossy 590A1 (better IMHO than the 500 series)

I haven't heard anything negative about the FN.

why isn't there a shotgun forum?????
    It's a good question.
Was talking with HunterCO and he's as addicted as I am to sporting clays and he's been here much longer than me.
    Clays are addictive.
