I have a local anecdote to tell;
As far as medical emergencies go, we feel better to have the fire station only 6 blocks away. We called once when a bicycle rider had his pedal fall off as he went into a sprint in front of our house. He took a bad fall, no helmet, but he was conscious and said he wanted them to look him over before he got moved. They got here in like 3 minutes. We took his bike into the garage and he spent a night in hospital but was fine.
