    Default The Firing Line

Am I hot under the collar! I just went into the Firing and shipped out a pistol with some accessories to Texas. They said that the package weighed 7 lbs, which was probably about right, but they charged me:

    $30.00 for the Transfer Fee
$47.00 for the shipping - (they said that it had to be overnighted by law and I did insure it for $600.00, but I've shipped plenty through UPS and the first $100.00 in insurance is included and then it's something on the order of .35 cents for each additional hundred in coverage.)
$8.00 for "handling" - basically their charge for throwing it in a box and slapping a label on it.

In short they charged me $85.00! I was already there for almost an hour and a half while they tried to find the FFL info (which they already had been sent 3 times in the past two weeks), and by the time it was sorted out and I got the price, I didn't have either the time or inclination to try to begin the process again, since none of this was the buyers fault.

And to think that I've dropped over $600.00 in there in the last three months and was planning on doing so again. I was just getting to be pleased with them again, since over at Dave's I get nothing but attitude, so I don't give them any monies any longer, and was going to purchase more things at the Firing Line. That won't happen now, I'll just go to some of the other shops that have more positive feedback on this site. Oh well, I guess you live and you learn. Anyone else have any comments on whether this was about right and I shouldn't be peaved? If I'm in the wrong here, I'd like to know it so that I don't hold it against them.

I used to go in there a lot, but these days I feel they are way over priced and just as bad as Dave's when it comes to attitude.

Try Robs, just down the street from Daves, East and on the same side of the street. There is also one over on the West side of town, Tom and Jerry's I think. Real small place just off of I-70 near Golden. I've only been out there a couple of times, several years ago, but they treated me real well.

I usually avoid the Firing Line when ever possible.

If you were sending it a gunsmith for repair, you didnt have to deal with an FFL. Still has to go UPS or FedEx.

Thanks for the replies, and since no one has said that the price I had to pay them wasn't out of order, I'll assume that I did have reason to be somewhat ticked at this.

If and when I ship FFL to FFL again, I won't be using them regardless. I believe that I can get the same type transaction done elsewhere for less, so that's what I'll do.

    Thanks again.

Overnight shipping is a killer and $20-30 is the norm for an FFL transfer. I would not feel too screwed. Not happy mind you, but not like I was just violated.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was looking for. I have also heard that if it's an out of state transfer that it's ok for an individual to ship it directly to the receiving FFL via FedEx, UPS and I've even heard that you can ship it Priority Mail through the USPS. I don't know if this is true (legal) or not, but I'm not interested in taking the chance either way, since I don't do this too often (I haven't shipped one in years obviously) and I just go FFL to FFL. I try to keep my toys once aquired when I can.

So today is the 17th, I shipped on the 12th, and they didn't get it on the truck until the 13th, even though they assured me that it would go out on the 12th.

So with the holiday over the weekend, the shipment is set to be received today. Not too bad actually [angry] , a couple of hours for something that should have taken 20 minutes and $85.00 bucks to get a package shipped and delivered on the 13th, that is in reality going to be received (hopefully) 5 days later! Just food for thought for anyone planning on shipping out of The Firing Line. I don't plan on going back there anytime soon.

Thanks again for the comments that have been posted to my initial inquiry.

FWIW i recently sold a P7 to a guy back east. I went through green mountain guns and they charged me $65 which included everything ($1600 worth of insurance, and the FFL transfer fee).
