Thx everyone.
1 shot #2 Remington Nitro 3". A 6 year old box that has bagged 2 so far. I figure I could get another 19 or so out of it. :-) I shot twice at the last bird and wasted 3 rounds back in 2006. haha. Don't laugh at my Mossberg either, I've had it since I was 13. Sentimental.
I'm hunting out behind Beulah, and I went yesterday cause the weather had the wind in single digits until lunch time. All textbook, I covered a lot of ground from 5-6ish owl calling (i don't have any shock calls I just make it up) and finally heard one gobble that I bee-lined for, using wind gusts to cover my sound. He was roosted on the lee-side overlooking a smaller meadow off of a real big one. Once I had his one gobble the only other thing I did was box call a tiny bit once I knew I was real close, he was chirping (or whatever you call that quiet sound). Since I was really far off when I heard the one gobble I figure I got pretty lucky in pinpointing him and not spooking him. You can see the edge of the meadow to my right, and the tree I'm under might actually be the one he roosted in. I stayed uphill from him and probably got him at about 15 yards. 1 bb in the breast, the rest in the head. I didn't know for sure it was the gobbler until he stuck his head up real high and I could see his beard, not strutting. I think he may have been on to me. Anyway, I could tell he wasn't huge but the wind was already picking up again and I figured I'd take what I could get. Especially with him holding his head up so high. He sure was great eating for my wife and our 4 kids! Those cooking bags are great!
