    Default Bass Pro Shops

Coming back from doing some business up north today I decided it was time to stop in to Bass Pro Shops to see what they have.

The place is huge. I imagine if I were in to fishing at all I'd salivate at the thought of being there.

The selection of handguns isn't as varied as one would think. They seemed to have lots more long guns to choose from.

I checked out their prices for the yellow box mega packs of UMC pistol ammunition. They are higher priced for that than either Gander Mountain or Sportsman's Warehouse. They did, however, have them in stock (wonder why they do and places that sell it for less don't?). I also didn't see any selection of SD specific ammo. No boxes of Gold Dots or whatever though maybe they store that elsewhere.

Holster selection was poorer than that found at Gander Mountain.

Selection of targets was a bit better than at SW or GM.

Frankly if you live/work closer to a SW or GM I don't see much reason to go to this place if you aren't in to fishing.

But did you go in the "Fine Gun Room"
    Serious drool inducing.
Some amazing stuff, none of which you can afford, but that's not the point.
Beautiful stuff that you just can't usually see elsewhere in town.

I agree with his feedback though, I wouldn't go by for gun stuff.
Fishing stuff, yeah (I had no idea there were so many fishing poles in the world) and we got a good deal on some hiking boots.

I didn't dare. Someone had already gotten me in lust with something I could buy! (Wink)

BTW, the Para shoots very, very well for me. Shooting at blank cardboard I created one big, ragged hole with the first rounds. Started making a second hole below it when I shifted point of aim down because I thought too many of the rounds were going through the child's fist sized hole in the chest area of my homemade IDPA target.

It ate 50 semiwadcutters without a hiccup.

Actually I thought their fishing department is junk, all eastern stuff. Their fly fishing stuff is extremely limited. This is not the Carolinas, or Missouri.

I did like their reloading dep't though. :P

My wife went there for camping equipment and ended up getting a better deal at sportsman's.

I've been in there once and because I was with her, we spent more time looking at the fish tank than the firearms. I could go back and spend an hour in the 'fine gun room' alone.

Did I mention, SW is 5 min. from My house. [wink]

    It's big, impressive and pricy.

I've only been there 2x and in no hurry to go back. (same as GM)

    SW is ok.

    Default Bass Pro

Bass Pro is overpriced on most stuff, but I go periodically. The fine gun room is nice. They have been a couple dollars cheaper than gander on prepackaged brass. Generally speaking, I go there to take the kids. They have museum quality taxidermy pieces throughout the entire store. The kids love to be able to get that close to all the various animals. Having said that, last week I bought a gun, some camping equipment and ammo from SW. I gotta say, there a pretty good bunch of guys over there and the prices are better. OH, and let's not forget for the cash challenged among us, SW and Gander have Layaway. :P

I agree that they really dont have much of a selection of firearms but the scenery is nice. But they are advertising that a shooting range will be opening up soon, wonder how much they will charge to shoot.

    Default Bass Pro Range

They have had a sign marking the coming of a range since they opened. Have they now begun speaking of a tentative date for it opening? It will be interesting to see if they will have memberships and what the cost will be for walk-ins vs. members. It will also be interesting to see what distances you will be able to shoot in there.

The former K2 had a 100 yard indoor set up. Bass Pro Shops is about a million times larger than K2 was.

    Just something to think about.....
