Well, I had never been to a Bass Pro shop before, so I had pretty high expectations. Even relatives of mine were bragging about how awesome Bass Pro was.

I wasnt impressed at all. For shooting equipment, Sportsmans is 100% better.

Well, I take that back. I am sure that if I were a person who was into "fashionable and color coordinated outdoor atire" I would have been much more impressed.

I was just up there yesterday and they had winchester 9mm for $129.99/1000 and 5.7x28 for my ps-90 for $17.99/ box not a bad price on either, and cheaper than gm or sw on the 9mm, neither gm or sw even carries the 5.7x28. they get a thumbs up in my book

I just raided my local wally world, got wwb for $119 / 1000 - not great, but cheaper than the last batch I bought.
They only had that price on boxes of 100 and I cleaned them out - got 10 boxes.

Clerk didn't bat an eye, we joked about the plastic bag breaking and spilling bullets all over the floor.

a better price, but I refuse to support walmart even if they had it for $50.00/1000 I'd pass

I'm with you there, I only go in about once or twice a year and then with a specific item in mind versus a big sweep.
Dang place treats their people like dirt, throws their weight around with suppliers, locals that don't want them ...

I've had Walmarts as my accounts over the last 12 years. I've had receivers that were cool, and some that were tyrants. But the one thing in common the whole time.....the store managers are pricks. Male or female, it didn't matter. They and collectively wlmart as an entity think they are god's gift to consumers, and there fore whatever they say is gospel.

They have recently told us what time we can deliver. They gave us a dock time and if we don't make our 15 minute window, we can't deliver. Oops sorry consumers, no Pepsi products for you, because we think we're god.

They don't care that it costs us alot of money to plan a whole route around their time constraints. It doesn't matter that at 1 of the other stores we deliver to before them, may have problems. A pallet could fall over in the truck and need to be picked up, traffic problems, back ups at a back door. They don't care. And that's because they suck.

It's an old thread - but thought I'd share a couple of recent experiences with BassPro.

They will price match anyone - including internet ads (Gander Mountain will do the same).

Over the past 2 months, I've had the gunsmiths at BassPro do some work for me. I'm very pleased.

The first was a barrel and barrel lug install on a Savage Rifle. They also glass bedded the gun and did some minor inletting (the lug didn't fit the stock). Turnaround was 5 days. When I talked to the smith at Gander he gave me a bunch of attitude - almost like he didn't want to deal with it. There's another smith I called in Northern Colorado who shall remain nameless that refused to work on the gun because it was a 7 WSM and he won't work on Winchester Short Mags.

The second experience was the installation of a Vais brake on a Remington 700. They estimated 4 - 6 weeks. They did it in 3 weeks. Very clean work and very reasonably priced.

I'm happy with the work they've done - but honestly, I've never bought a gun from them or shopped there for a gun (I've bought a ton of fishing tackle from them though).

Gander Mountain will not match prices with any location over an hours driving distance AND it would appear that the managers have discression on what they will and will not match. Case in point; Gm in Aurora and I was looking at some Burris XTR rings, GM carries them at $66 or $68. Knowing I could get a better deal I pinged Jensen Arms, $39.99. Asked the manager to price match "sure what store has em cheaper?", Jensen says I. Nope sorry won't do it. Uhhh they're well with in an hours drive. Nope sorry I won't match Jensen.

Needsless to say I won't be back to Gander mountain.
