    Default Anybody been Fishing??

Here is a little report for the Colorado Spring/Pueblo area:

    Brush Hollow Reservoir:
fast and furious...trout, walleye and crappie
boat ramp is useless...water is falling at 6' per week

    Lake Pueblo:
    high water...higher than before 2001
spring run off is keeping the water high but merky
fishing is kinda slow because the fish are so spread out, if you find them they are all biting though..Wipers, Stripped Bass, Bass, Sauger, Walleye, Trout and Lake Trout.

    Rampart Reservoir:
Water is almost at pre-2001 levels...about 10 feet below spillway
Trout are hitting hard...water is very clear.
It's been 5 years since they were open to fish and the fish are hungry. We all averaged about 10 fish/hour all day..all would be keepers if you like trout. 12-16" Fighting hard like bass too. Keep in the back bays for fast action in under 20' of water. The open water has them sitting about 50' of water but spread out.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Fished Cherry Creek 5 times this season, and haven't caught a damn thing so far. On Friday there were so many trout schooling near the shore, they were getting washed up on the rocks by wakes near the towers and were flopping back into the water. It was like they were laughing at me. I would've had better luck reaching down and grabbing one then hooking one, hah. Only had 3 bites the last day i was there, but that place was teaming with fish.

Any hints for a novice shore fishing? I used to fish back in Dallas for small mouth on a friend's property, but those fish were hungry and would latch on to anything. Same with the blue gill, hell, you could use a little cheese on a hook and just hold the line with your hand and you were pulling them in as fast as you could wind up the line. Not sure what it is about Colorado, but I just don't have any luck.

Mostly using either power bait on a 4" lead, small spinners, or small lures. Most hits I've had yet is off of a real tiny spinner w/ some power bait. Shore fishing sucks, but it's all I can do right now. Any help is appreciated...

If You just want to play with the Bluegill, Get a Fly Rod. I spent an hour and a half just pulling them out and putting them back as fast as I could.
No telling how many I caught 2,3,4 times. Bluegills is Dumb.

Here is just the ticket for shore fishing for trout. Think small....they are pretty timid and shy away from line also. I use 4# and smaller only. Hooks, think small here too. The trout will mouth bait without swallowing. If they feel a hook or resistance, they spit it out.

Take a No. 12, 14 or 16 hook, single, double or treble and tie it to about 3-4 feet of line. This is the depth you will be fishing off the bottom. Then tie the other loose end onto a small barrel swivel. On the rod side of the line slip on a small barrel sinker...smaller is better. After slipping on the sinker, tie the rod end of the line to the barrel swivel too. This lets the fish pull on the line but not feel the sinker and the swivel keeps the sinker from going all the way down to the bait. Now bait your hook with any Berkely's trout bait and cast out. Make sure to use enough bait that it will float your hook and completely cover the hook...not much is needed. If you prefer, mount a night crawler instead, but you'll need to inflate your worm to get it off the bottom.

After casting let the slack stay in the line, don't take it up. When the line becomes taught..you have a fish, and it swallowed the bait, no chance of escape unless the line breaks.

Caution...this is difficult if you catch and release to not kill the fish because they swallow the hook.

Ok awesome, thank you very much, I am on the right track. I have been doing almost exactly what you said, with the exception of leaving slack in the line.

Are there any other good methods or styles of shore fishing like the above? I'm not too familiar with much else.
