Default dry goods in buckets, w or w/o Mylar

So the question is, if I want to store some rice, beans, salt, sugar and pasta in 5 gal buckets with gamma lids using O2 absorbers do I need to seal in mylar bags?

    Default Mylar

According to several LDS folks you can do it either way. Just better with the mylar.

You'll get a better seal with less air penetration with mylar bags. Then the bucket is strong enough to protect the mylar bag and is more stackable/portable.

You can also use poly bags. these fit in a 5 gal bucket nicely. or store a few things in one bucket. so you can open one bucket not 4 to get some beans, rice, wheat berry's and say dried onions out. link to cheap bags http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/...rial-Poly-Bags

What about putting the beans, rice, etc. in the buckets and keeping the items in the plastic bags they came in...then putting the bucket it on? Should you still use mylar? and should you still use some kind of absorber?

For long term Mylar in the bucket is the only way to go. For beans/wheat 02 absorber or the dry-ice works well.

Anyone have any recipes they use the dry goods in these pails?
