Default anyone want to help me out

Please forgive my ignorance as I really don’t know the differences in PPPS, IPSC, IDPA, and IHMSA. So please forgive me.

I am interested in any sort of variation for practical or tactical pistol, rifle, or 3 gun shoot, or any other that you or target move and shoot. I want to do some fun stuff to extend my prior military training and relieve some school/work stress. And honestly I want to start competing on a regular basis. Maybe once I get familiar with the different types and classes of competitions I can see which one fits me and my guns best.

Also I think it would help me be more prepared for this class I am about to take in MO with Jim Shanahan this fall. I am finally comfortable with my health that I can start doing stuff again that is a little demanding on my body. Still may not be 100% where I was at one time, but I’m gud’nuf.
I still don’t know very many gun people here in Colorado; this is why I am posting this here.

ALRIGHT HERE IS THE REASON FOR THIS POST:
I want to talk with someone that does one of these type competitions. If you shoot competitions at Pueblo West that’s even better. If you live in Pueblo area that would be perfect, but even if you live up around Springs or Canon, or even farther locations in Colorado as long as it’s not to far, Denver or just north of Denver is doable so are most of the eastern plains areas. But I have no idea of any ranges up in that part of the state.

I would even pay for this help if you need I aint rich so it can't be eleventeen million dollars, and I would even buy you lunch or dinner just for letting me pick your brain for a while.

Just to be clear I am not actually asking for actual firearm training. Well actually I guess it's how you look at it. I want to know about what goes on, what I should expect, what types of guns are typically used and what equipment do I need. And then maybe we just shoot a little and tell me what you think and possibly some pointers you can give me to do when I am at the range.

I was told Pueblo West has a tactical rifle competition don’t know what the exact name was of it. One of the guys at Arctic Shooting shoots it I have talked to him a little about it, but not really in depth.

As a added bonus if you reload your own ammo I would greatly appreciate learning some of that to. Nothing major, just to see how its done, and get your advice on equipment. I truely want to buy a reloading setup, but I dont have the first clue on where to even begin.

I am free on most Fridays and Saturdays
But this Friday 9th is tied up with doctors on and Saturday 10th AK build party
Email crankgoboom at gmail.com or yahoo.com I can be reached at either email and that’s the ones I can check at work without any issues

I would be truely thankful for any and all help.

I spend a lot of time at Pueblo West. In fact I used to run all the practical matches down there.

This thread tells a little about what goes on there. http://coloradoshooting.org/ipw-web/...opic.php?t=726

June 11 there will be an IPSC match. Be there by 8:00 to get in on the free, and mandatory, "New to IPSC" class.

I usually spend a morning or two a week at PWSA. Let me know if we should get together. After the 11th, I wont be around for a few months.

This site, www.ecouspsa.com tells all about the practical (mostly IPSC) matches all along the front range.

Jim Shanahan is a very solid IPSC shooter. Let me know how his class is.

IDPA is kinda like IPSC-lite. Its a short IPSC stage shot using IDPAs version of tactics. Things like slicing the pie, retaining ammo in mags, shooting closer targets first, ect. Not good, not bad.

IDPAs guns can be just as expensive and specialized as IPSC guns. IDPA does not allow porting/comps, scopes, race/speed holsters, and has weight limits.

IDPA stages are restricted to 18 rounds, can not have more than a certain percentage of threat to non-threat targets, and cant have more than a certain amount of steel targets.

In IPSC, you don’t need a $4,000 Unlimited Division, optically sighted, 29 round, Racegun to compete, despite what worthless gun rags like American Handgunner say. Great pics, worthless articles. Like IDPA, different guns only compete against similar guns.

IPSC stages start around 18 rounds and go as high as 30-32.

IPSC doesn’t pretend to teach any tactics. It is a game, they know it, and are ok with it.

IPSC has divisions for most all guns.

Both are great teachers of weapon handling skills under a little bit of stress. Both are fun. I have been playing both games since 99 or 2000.

The rulebooks are downloadable. www.idpa.com and www.uspsa.org

See you Sunday morning? I will be teaching the "Intro to IPSC" class.

PPPS - Pikes Peak Practical Shooters. PPPS is the tenant club on Pueblo West Sportsmans Assn grounds that hosts IPSC, IDPA and 3-Gun/Tactical Rifle matches. Everything used at any PPPS match is owned by PPPS and not PWSA. We store our stuff there and have permission to host 3 matches a month. We pay a trespass/guest fee to PWSA after every match for every non-PWSA member.

IPSC - International Practical Shooting Confederation. Thats the International governing body of USPSA, United States Practical Shooting Assn. Almost all IPSC matches in the US are run under USPSA and IPSC rules. USPSA and IPSC are used to describe most Action type matches.

IDPA - International Defensive Pistol Assn. A split-off Assn formed by IPSC shooters in the early to mid 90s. Geared at providing a tactical training environment.

IHMSA - International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Shooting Assn. Pistol silhouette shooting. Steel critters shot with just about any handgun either laying down or standing up. Chickens at 50 yards, pigs at 100, turkeys at 150 and rams at 200 yards. Great fun. The Match director insists that its a tough sport. I keep telling him IHMSA easy, IPSC hard. He also says I shoot too fast. 120 seconds is forever for 5 shots.

ok, i know season is almost over, but last couple months has been hell with me. i havent even been to the range that much. I am feeling a bit better and would still love to meet up with someone that does some competing and pick their brain or go shooting one afternoon.
next year if i am still here, I will try to make every match in pueblo, and may even travel for some matches.
