I've used the Ortho Home Defense Hornet & Wasp Killer with great effect. 15' range and has a thick foam that encapsulates the nest. I've never had to retreat.

That's unfortunate. The UPS in my home office sent me an email last night that we had a power dip at 3:24am that was just momentary.

It was, but other people in the area didn't get power back until 2-3 in the a.m. If it wasn't raining i would have got the generator running.

I use more cheap and caveman ish method.
I use water hose and spray it from distance.
When it absorb water, hive gets heavy and fall on the ground.
    I retreat about 30 yards.
Tries the method twice so far.
