yeah, they aren't really sold out of the DRMO I don't think. (ammunition management is one of the very fun things I do for the Army)

I used to manage an ammo account, and all of our expended brass, dunnage, and cans were turned in, sent to DRMO, and sold as scrap. I saw 40mm Bofors casings, all sorts of things included in scrap. Heck, I saw a crashed F-16 sold as "Mixed aluminum and steel scrap".

to be fair, I've seen a box full of old uppers and things sold as scrap aluminum.
big boxes of old M4 stocks and what-not sold as scrap plastic.
