OBC: lots of good advice on here. Being able to look through a bunch of different scopes is a golden opportunity. Regardless of the cost of the gun, get the best glass you can. When the rifle dies, the scope can then be put on a new gun.

Expensive scopes and mounts are where a lot of the cost should be.... Shit, I've got a $550 rifle with a $1200 optic setup.....

BUT, I can (and do) take that scope between several rifles.

Change the A2 to an A-3 / flat top. With the carry handle you're 4" above the bbl, from go.

No, just the upper receiver. You can keep your barrel, hand guards, stock, and all other accessories, just get a different upper receiver to build your gun around.

Hell, I figured the whole barrel part was the upper, and everything else was considered the lower part.

Yeah, it's like $90-up for a new upper... Add in about a half hour of skill with a torque wrench, and all is well.
