"I am a conservative. Quite possibly I am on the losing side; often I think so. Yet, out of a curious perversity I had rather lose with Socrates, let us say, than win with Lenin."

Somebody compare and contrast 1:7 vs 1:9 twist using 55 gr boolits. Trying to explain it to one of the minions and doing a poor job.

I was 100% wrong. Read what Crays said below.![]()

What have you said so far, and what is your ultimate goal? Specific diff between performance in 9 v 7, or just basics of rifling (impart spin on bullet to stabilize in flight for better ballistic)?
About to get out of my pay grade, so I'll stop now.

Regarding 1:7 vs 1:9, doesn't the barrel length come into play as well?
A 20" barrel that is 1:9 will stabilize heavy bullets too, about as well as a 16" barrel with a 1:7. Or at least thats what I've been told... so if I'm wrong, I'm blaming it on one of you hos who told me otherwise.![]()

Damn kid is getting old enough and gaining a little knowledge so that his analytical thinking is starting to work. More and more often he will ask a question that throws a wrench into my own analytical gears and locks them up.
