Just doing what I can to stay on this side of the dirt.
Assuming you have windows: look in the lower right next to the time: do you have a network indicator there? You should be able to right click on that to get into your network settings and see what is going on.

Have covered both of your suggestions and here is where I end up.
And of course now I have to get on the road and probably not get back to the house until after techs go home for the day. Hopefully will have time to at least call them today. Zero chance of sitting at computer while on the phone though.

My win7 HP has the F12 key as the on/off for wireless. IF the light is white / blue (color blindish) it's on, if not (darker color) off.
IF the Light is illuminated for ON and still nothing take a look at your router. My router has a on/off and WPS buttins on the side. Those must be on and the wireless icon illuminated on the router to function.
This is for vista.
