Amigo needs timing belt, and the shifter cable and a bushing on the auto tranny replaced. I tried to pull the shifter cable myself, and broke the plastic ears off. It will shift into all gears but park, which means you have to put it into neutral to start it. There is some bushing behind the gear selector sensor thing that is letter tranny fluid seep out, and that causes some issues as well. It is actually a common issue on this vehicle, but it is beyond my abilities. After I take care of those two things, then I'll work on going through the drive train and suspension on my own. Oh yeah, there is a very small coolant leak around the intake manifold. You can smell anti-freeze, but it leaks so little, that I've had to fill the coolant reservoir once in several thousand miles. The last guy that was going to do the work for me said it'd be easy enough to take care of while doing the timing belt.

Again, I'd like to be able to do it myself with help, but if it is going to be like a 16 hour nightmare or something, I think I'll just pay a shop.

On second thought, I'll ask the kid if he's up for replacing your timing belt and shift cable, Irving. I'll find out tomorrow, he's interested in those kinds of side jobs.

    Good night fellers.

Thanks. No immediate hurry on this, but as I make bonus money this summer/fall from work, this will develop.

Get a quote, save money do it all at one time. Why double up on some labor charges, trying to save money. You need a timing belt / chain. Replace water pump, thermostat, and other hard to get to items, while in there.
Same for intake leak. While shits off, valve cover gaskets. Each repair requires removal of like items. Had to replace pan gasket in truck, and intake leak. Required removal of motor. 125k on odometer. Pan's off, do rear main, intake, removed AC compressor, and alternator, cover gaskets ,water pump etc.

You guys make me feel like I don't know anything about cars... And relative to some of you chumps (especially Jim, OBC, Z) I really don't.

Sure is a good skill to have though. I need to get under the hood and under the cars more often and start figuring stuff out.
