Both are run and gun, IDPA has more rules and slanted towards self defense, USPSA fewer rules, faster and slanted toward sporting/competition.

Irving said it all. Only hard part is just showing up. After the match you will scold your self for stalling.

First match IDPA all you need is pistol, holster(appropriate for CC) and 100 rnds ammo (I bring 100-150 just in case of stage reshoot or really bad accuracy on my part). I have never used more than 105 rnds. Also need cover garment which you will be already wearing (it is winter soon).

As you shoot more matches you will decide if your holster works for your purposes in match and what type mag carriers you like etc.

So if I show up with my G19, 2 mags, 150rds, my IWB holster, a jacket, and ear pro I'm good to go? What is the fee to play? Any other associated fees?

Any specific holster requirements? I have a Serpa OWB holster that would probably be a lot better for drawing from than my Supertuck, but it is not in any way intended for concealment.

Two mags will usually suffice(for IDPA, stage requires 18 rnds and you start with 21 so if you want a chance at more than 3 make up shots then need 3rd mag) but take 3. Maybe couple extra bucks if side match.

Most IDPA matches are $20 and most clubs knock off $5 if you show up early to help set up.

Serpa holster should be fine as long as not drop leg rig and your cover garment conceals it.

Irving runs an IWB holster very well and speed is no concern first match. Safety is. If you shoot yourself in the azz while drawing pistol, RO will DQ you then render first aid.

Is there a limit on gun type or mag size?

    Holster restrictions are:
    No drop-leg
    No shoulder
    No appendix
No 6 o'clock or cross draw
Must be worn behind center line of hips (3 o'clock and back).
Any mag holster should be worn center line and back as well.

A lot of people use OWB holsters, you just have a cover garment.

What you listed is fine, but I'd bring three magazines if you have them. You'll be loading to 10 rounds (11 to start).
To give you an idea, I shot my first match in 2009, skipped 2010, and have been shooting every year since. I just got a magazine carrier THIS year (2014). I just show up with my carry holster, 5 mags (only ever use 3), mag carrier, and an untucked T-shirt as my cover garment. I did mag changes out of my pockets for a long time. Oh, correction, I just got a GOOD, kydex mag carrier this year. I was using a nylon carrier for full sized mags, with Kleenex stuffed into the bottom to raise up my compact mags, with the retention straps removed, for years. I got a penalty once because I was laying prone and my mags slid out of my nylon mag holster.

Anyway, like I was saying, just show up. And you forgot eyepro on your list.
