Start the thread about the BLM thing, I haven't heard about it yet. I did see the sunrise. Woke up and it was solid orange outside. Went back to sleep.

Meh. I'm not very concerned.
I'm probably in the minority here in that I'm very happy Russia has gotten involved in the middle east. Now when they fail at it (and they will) everyone will have someone else to blame for the collateral damage. I don't care if it "looks like a strategic victory for Russia" or some such garbage, I think we should 100% back out of the middle east NOW and let Russia deal with the hell we've gotten ourselves into. This would have a number of positive effects on our economy, national morale, international feelings toward the US, etc.
So far, Russia's involvement has confirmed what I had long since thought about their military power and readiness: it's pathetic compared to ours. Yes, they have a lot of tanks (so do we) but their weapons are all several generations of technology behind ours. I find it reassuring that their ability to project power to another continent is limited in scope and effect.

The Russians are used to "pushing", just like a little kid, just to see how far they can go. Many countries of the world are seeing a dramatic increase in "violations" of sovereign territory by the Russians, with aircraft, ships and subs. Putin is testing, trying to set a new normal. He is testing response times, and commitment. He doesn't do anything for no reason. It's nice that someone finally said "enough". After numerous warnings by the Turkish pilots, and no response by the Russian aircraft, the new normal just shifted considerably.
Chinese are doing the same "pushing" in the naval and cyber realms. And we're not in a position to stop either of them.
