One of my parents has passed, I doubt the other makes it another 5 years.
I want nothing from their passing.

They have already given me much more than I ever could have imagined or could have repaid.

And none of it involved money or material things.

My condolences regarding your loss, that’s never easy.

These are the feelings I would expect most people to have towards that situation. I don't know what assets my parents have, let alone ever thought about it (dare I say be eagerly waiting for it)....

I had an idea what assets our parents had.
My sisters who lived in the area took care of dad the 6 years after mom passed. When it was time to divide any monies there were in the estate, i told them to split it among them since they were there to deal with everything.

I'm kind of in the same boat. My brother lives an hour/hour and a half from my parents and I'm 10 hours away. There are a couple of nick-nacks from my grandparents I'd enjoy having, but mostly just let me brother have everything.

While I see my parents too rarely, we do communicate often and what I really want is for them to stay alive forever (which I know is unrealistic) so I can learn even more from them. I know they won't be here forever so I'll just take what experiences the good Lord provides and enjoy they presence in my life while I can.

I think this sentiment could fit a great many families. It certainly does in the case with my own folks, and it's different with my friends parents. Dementia is part of the sum on this deal, and that is a game changer for sure. Especially when an outside caregiver starts to indicate to the recipient that amorous interests from the patient are OKAY. wtf? There is some fixing going on with that aspect right now.
