Oh yeah, I sent Pistachio out to get threaded, but apparently the Axis barrels are too thin to take a traditional thread. So what was going to be the average $150 thread job turned into different threads that would require an adapter and a quote for $250. I decided to scrap the whole idea. I like that gun but I'm thinking I should sell it and get something else. Maybe I'll switch over to 6.5 Creedemore or something instead. I don't tend to tinker with stuff, so I liked the low price and ready to go out of the box aspect of the Axis. I like Savage though, so maybe I should just look at one of the better platforms.

That Boyds thumbhole stock made it pretty heavy for hunting too.

for a budget rifle that is decent out of the box the ruger platform seems to work, especially with a threaded bbl. However the Bergara is a very strong contender for accuracy, out of box and a very good price point. Same for howa, where you can buy a barreled action, minus stock. Both Howa & Bergara have very good reviews from actual shooters, not a magazine.

OR i'd sell you one of my threaded bbl bolt action 700's.

Savage 110 or Ruger Predator, plenty models to choose from.

If can tolerate the weight Stealth or RPR.

As GK says, Bergera has been getting good shooter reviews.

What about a Tikka? I'm much more likely to use for hunting than for long range matches.

    I also like Pistachio.

I use a tikka lite for hunting. I think the barrel profile is also too thin to thread without an adapter. But it is nice to have as it?s so light, but is very accurate.

How about a Savage Stealth Evolution in 338 Lapua? You can take your next elk from 1,000 yards.

...that was my BIL's rationalization. It's only 12lbs.
