At some point, a dragon fly made out of butter knives will get made.

So speaking of different metals, after I bought all the spoons from the *thrift shop, I realized that they are all "stainless" and I only have carbon steel stuff. So I ordered a little roll of 308 stainless wire. I wasn't going to run out and get tri-gas but have access to 75/25 and 100% argon. Watched a couple YouTube videos and looked up some opinions on discussion forums. Changed to the stainless wire and left the 75/25 on the welder. Using the settings on the side of the welder (4/30) just exploded a hole right through my practice spoon. I turned stuff down to 2/20 and it still wasn't working. I put the mild steel filler wire back in and it worked just great. Now I've got a roll of stainless if I ever need it I guess.

I'm maxed out on how much I can work on that fish as well since I need to get the patina to color the scales. Problem is I haven't worked significantly in a few weeks and things are getting pretty tight right now so I really need to shop for the best deal so I don't have to go spend another $100 for the stains if I can avoid it.

After she did the last weld, I took the dog and threw it on the floor to see if the welds held. After it bounced around and didn't fall apart, she gave me a legitimate high five. It was a good moment.

Not only a nice job, but another family bonding moment, too.

All my daughter wants to do when she visits is, look through the gun safes.

You could just krylon the fish and call it good.

Or stick it outside and just let mother nature patina it over time.

Wife likes the raw metal look, but once she sees my vision, she'll appreciate me taking the time to complete what I have in my head.
