    I looked at Cherokees too for a couple of months too. I could have bought 2 Cherokees instead of the 4Runner. One of my mechanics is a Cherokee guy so I'd been covered if I'd gone that route. My other mechanics are Toyota guys. I drove both and the Toyota was more solid, more comfortable. I just liked the 3rd Gen 4Runner so much better.

    A 5-speed 4Runner was a little difficult to get too, I called on 4 or 5 and they sold quick. Most are automatics and my wrenches said "the auto is great...until you pay $3k to fix it" The 5 Speed has way more longevity.
