Happens often, but when it happens the entire work shift, it really sucks.

Funny thing is, its crystal clear skies right now (well it was). No radar returns, almost no cloud coverage (there are clouds but we could see through them with this instrument as its in the IR). Two more hours though!
Can't go to Walmart and get a $10 box fan to ventilate that shit?

Oh, our telescope sits out on a pier. We pull the building off of it. Heck, let me get a pic...

eta: Thats a really old pic, as it doesn't have the flat field petals, but you get the idea. In short, if we plunge a cold telescope into the warm damp air, we'll get instant condensation no mater how much ventilation we have.

We have HUGE ventilation that sucks air down from the top, through the blue A-frame supports that you see there, and away from the telescope about 50-75ft.

That lower enclosure (box below the observing deck) holds all of the computer racks and generate a lot of heat, so that heat is pulled out as well.

    Yea, that might do it.

You should try that. Go get a glass of ice cold water when the humidity is high. Point a box fan at it and see if it still forms condensation on the outside... methinks it will.
