I actually got a a little screwed on the Mark 4 as well. When I bought the rifle/scope package off ARFCOM, it turns out that while the Scope is packaged/marked as a Mark 4, it was an early model that apparently has the older Mark 3 glass, some say - better - glass, but doesn't have the screw threads on the eyepiece and objective bells so I can't use the cool Leupold magnetic covers I bought for it. The worst part is that I could probably sell the pair but misplaced one of them.

I wasn't aware of the Bushnell at the time, or certainly would have considered it as well. Sometimes you go with what you know. I know the SWFA is solid and I know what to expect of it given my abilities.
I've usually purchased based upon what another board member or someone in my local has they're looking to sell. Luckily most of the glass has been (for me) higher end. Or something cool, like an old redfield 4x, that came with a 77/22 package from Ruger way back.

If you're going to play the LD game, save the pennies. The optics game is like AR acc. Someone, somewhere, wants to "upgrade" and if you act fast usually score something worthwhile.

the G2 reticle makes the bushnell worth it (Horus-like reticle without the added licensing fee). If it wasn't available, and all I could get was the mildot (btr2) reticle, I'd probably think harder about swfa.

truth be told, my first bushnell was a gift from my wife. I told her what a scope should have, and she came home with it one day.

    shes a pretty good woman.
Please tell me you used the white board to explain to her what you wanted.

Expensive scopes and mounts are where a lot of the cost should be.... Shit, I've got a $550 rifle with a $1200 optic setup.....

BUT, I can (and do) take that scope between several rifles.
You can look through mine since I'm closer than texas.

This is a must. You can buy a flat top upper and ask Bert to swap it out for you. Or sell your complete upper and buy one that's freefloated.
