    Best read I've seen for understanding the topic (and myths) of bullet stabilization.

    In short, the LENGTH of a bullet (and longer = heavier in general) the more air can disturb the bullet. Higher rotational stability is needed to prevent the disturbance. A faster twist barrel provides the necessary rotation.

    Think of how much rotation a really short top may need to remain upright if you blow air on it, vs how much rotation would be needed to keep a much taller top stable.

    Barrel length affects stabilization only by virtue of loss of velocity affecting rotation speed.
