Smoking pipes is very nice and very smooth. I like it. Yeah, after I moved my chair about 4 times, I just packed it up and went inside.

Sounds like you could use a barrel stove...
I've had I think 8 or 9 different pipes. You know the World Class Cigar shop at 44th and Wadsworth (just north of 44th and on the East side of Wads, just before I-70)? That guy got me into pipes and he can give you a good jumping off point; not to mention he is the best cigar shop in the metro area to which I've ever been. Start off with a cheapy composite pipe. I got mine from him for $20 (but that was 10 years ago). You don't have to break in a composite pipe, just smoke and go. Easy to learn on. First thing you should do is take it apart and remove the filter, this will make the draw much less restrictive. Captain Black is a great brand of pipe tobacco for decent money. I like the Cherry, Black, and I think the original. Smoker Friendly, as well as many cigar shops carry their own brands of pipe smoke. The Tobacco Leaf over near Belmar has a lot of great flavors.
Ask the guy to show you how to pack the bowl. Pipes aren't as easy as cigars where you just light them and they stay lit. They take a bit of finessing and can be frustrating at first. If you smoke too slow, they will go out. If you smoke to fast, they get so hot you can't hold the pipe, and they go out. If you pack the tobacco too loose, they go out. Finally, if you pack the tobacco too tight, they go out.
All that said, pipe smoke is MUCH more smooth, and smells MUCH better than cigar smoke. I used to smoke in my car and house (blew the smoke into the fire place while running) and the next day would smell like cherry, instead of stale cigar. I used to have a Gandalf pipe, but it was more of a conversation piece since it was made of porcelain and didn't smoke well. Also my wife broke it in half (and it was still longer than the rest of my other pipes. There are also all kinds of designs and materials which pipes are made from, making it fun to collect them. I still have my very first (or second) cheapy composite pipe. My most expensive pipe was $80, and I love it. I'll go take some pictures.

Thanks for the info Irving! I know right where that place is at. I didn't know all that about it. I like things that take finesse. Dipping took no real finesse...
I have been around heavy pipe smokers that stunk so bad - clothing, pipe, and BREATH - they literally almost made me puke, and that was when I was a cigarette smoker.
I can't stand to be around anyone that reeks of dirty old pipe.

Waste your time making you ask permission for things you have a natural right to own. "Anyone that thinks the communists won't turn off your power for being on COAR15 is a fucking moron."
We also got our kids first pet. A parakeet... Its name is "baby bluebird". Cool little bird!
I like a pipe and some spirits some weekend nights....especially during fall.
I think if you smoke too much of anything, and it still stinks. I can smell it in my beard when I wake up the next morning.

My old man use to have his tobacco blended for him. He was / is a pipe and CEEGAR smoker. At one point he use to cut his cigars and cram them in the pipe. Last time I saw him, he was smoking these little guinea (Italian) stink pots. I said thought you quite smoking? I did, I quite smoking big cigars
There's so many choices, like buying a gun, best to browse for the right one. Probably 2 -3 Times before you find one that works for you.
