Yes, just wire the gfi outlet ahead of all the other outlets in the circuit that you want to have gfci protection.

You can also get gfci and afci breakers to protect the entire circuit. Basically if you run the gfi outlet first then it has the same effect....without having to go outside to reset if it trips...

These are old non-grounded two prawn outlets. No ground wire, the GFCI and the outlets downstream would not be grounded as Stu, Er, ahh, Irving wants.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Well, the idea was to replace the romex to each outlet (or just add a ground wire, but I'd prefer just new romex), then add a GFCI at the beginning of the circuit.

Sounds like a permit needs to be pulled, besides the wire. If i were you i'd locate a qualified sparky, who knows what the codes are. Then have them wire to code.

Participating in the word association thread. Notice spyder has more references to woman's anatomical prts then OBC uses. Perhaps SLC is sparse on the opposite OR same sex. Thus him living vicariously through words, rather then actions.

I think the previous owners must have updated the electrical at some point. When the inspector tests that the outlets have a ground, they'll say, "Yep, must have."

I'm going to look into this before I do anything. If it's over my head, I'll end up paying someone else. If I can pull new romex one outlet at a time, I'll do that, even if it takes me six months.
The goal is to have grounded outlets and ferret out any bad wiring. If I screw something up, I'll stop and get it fixed. I've got plenty of offers to contact guys that know what they're doing, in addition to my own contacts.
Ultimately I want better than before. I know what I can and can't do, so if I can't do it, I'll pay someone who can.
