My father taught me never to start a group buy, but always make sure I finish one.

Here are some of the photos I was trying to post before.

I had to get onto this big bastard, AND try and measure it. Little did I know, while I was climbing all over trying to measure and not die at the same time (climbing that second story hip up to those box vents while pulling tape for example), the adjuster just measured the perimeter of the house and sketched it out in 20 seconds. The top ridge just above those box vents in this photo measured out at 2' 2".

This was a 12/12 pitch all over, with the exception of one small portion just above the porch, and for once, the photos do it justice. The taller roofs get, the steeper they seem. The adjuster and I were standing down on the ground wondering if it was a 14/12 or even a 16/12, but it just looked steeper than it was.

This was taken while I straddeled that 2' 2" section of ridge in the first photo, looking off the other side of the house. The rafter length was 30' 6". The rope I was using is only maybe 14' long, so I couldn't have gotten down to that pipe boot even if I wanted to. Well, I could have walked, but I would have been completely unsupported, so that wasn't happening.

This is how I got there. Walked in the valley, then walked up the last 10' or so to the ridge.

Finally, here is me hanging off the back side to draw my test square. I have to submit a photo in order to get paid for using a rope and harness. Not all companies pay for rope and harness though.

So.. Why don't you invest in a quad copter. take pictures. Then get on the roof, snap 1 maybe 2 pictures with the rope and harness showing, call it a day?

For a skinny fella, you're pretty ballsy.

Drones are creeping into the industry a bit, but there are still things that they can't do, like take measurements, brittle test, lift shingles to differentiate between a hail impact and a nail pop, etc.

I bet there would be a market for a drone that could crawl around on stuff like a spider. Roofs, trees, cliffs, canyons, etc. With all those legs, it'd be easy to stabilize enough to have some arms to interact with surroundings if necessary.

Good catch, I didn't even notice that in the middle of nowhere Iowa, there appears to have been a major traffic jam at the time I took the picture. Pretty funny.

Since I have been flying since I was a kid I keep teasing myself with the thought of getting a DJI with thermal and doing house scans (heat escapes etc). The downside is registration and the equipment would be about a 5k start up
