How close does the scanner need to be to whatever it is scanning in order to get a useful reading?

From the equipment I have seen you can fly about 6-15' out (thermal camera) and get a really detailed Image. Let me try to find my link sheet on it and post some links up
The reason I ask is that if you don't have to be super close, then you can probably get most of the data from the edge of a ladder.

Flying in first person view you wouldn't even need the ladder. The downfall of flying in fpv is the faa requires a spotter (copilot) and even then you can't fly out of your spotters view.
And registration and I believe they are working on a UAV pilots test but that might be just rumor.
The whole other use is property areal shots and night hunting![]()
That's pretty cool. Drones are pretty impressive, and even though they're very popular right now, I think the potential is just barely beginning to be tapped. Flir is badass as usual.
