I've heard that line of thinking before, and can't understand it even a little bit. Why in the world would you possibly opt out of having an airbag?

Because I was injured worse in slow slide(15-20mph) on ice and bump into tree than 65mph roll over(end over end w/ 2 twists).

Broken nose, concussion, both black eyes and sore neck vs sprained wrist and bump on head.

I'm not sure what to say. I'd ask how you know, but I imagine you can specifically list which injuries were from the airbag on the low speed impact. Seems like a simple enough solution of adjusting when they come out then eliminating them. I can't imagine the large numbers agree that not having airbags is safer.

Most cars nowadays have side airbags in the seat that protect you from your arms and head flying out the window in a rollover. I was more badly injured when I was rear ended at about 15mph than when I t-boned another car at approximately the same speed. Airbags didn't deploy, but that's because I was moving too slowly (airbags won't activate until at least 20-25mph).

Even my tiny convertible has those side curtain airbags in them. I put in an aftermarket steering wheel in my car, but opted to keep the airbag.

Air bags are safer than no air bags, especially in high speed collisions. The air bag should not have deployed at that low speed but it did and I was not expecting it.

Insurance company stated that I had to be mistaken about the speed. The bumper on Astro van was not damaged beyond scratches and was not even replaced.

The air bag did not deploy in roll over. Sprained wrist was from not letting go of shifter and a wrench I had behind seat hit me in the head causing bump.

I would still opt out if given choice.

To be clear, I'm just sharing thoughts and opinions about stuff and not feverishly arguing about ...anything really.

I never implied my disdain for airbags and the industry itself was based on a safety aspect alone, or the presumed safety sanctioned by Gov. I've survived high speed race track and roll over impacts without airbags, and some wrecks while unbelted. Airbags are unnecessary in my opinion.

I've also been working in the automotive industry as a career for over 31 years, so I have my own opinions based on my personal experiences on deployments from accidents, and maintenance and repair aspects. Those same years were worked in a 911 response industry, and I've heard quite a few survival stories along with the gory ones, and Airbags have injured and killed a lot of people long before Takata tried taking the lead for that title. Similarly, I have a disgust for "automated" seatbelts, and or continuous chimes and buzzers that go off if you choose not to wear them. Or anything that "auto" does stuff for you because somebody else decided it was safer or more convenient for me in their opinion, or sanction. I literally used to carry a male seatbelt insert on my key ring to put into the receptacle so the car thought the belt was fastened.

I guess I'm just saying that I don't ever want anyone to be making choices for me because they think it's safer for me. Fuck you, I'll choose it if that's what I want to do. I think I'm getting worse about this type of issue the older I get. Is this the beginning of "old man" disease?.....lol.

Dodge had a recall for some vehicles reportedly slipping out of park and into reverse. Their fix? Make the horn blow if the vehicle is in reverse and you open the door. I have to keep positive back pressure on my fifth wheel to unhitch. My routine is to chock the fiver wheels, keep the truck idling in reverse with the parking brake on. Can you imagine the stink eye I would get from other campers? Particularly if pulling in late? F that. I think there is a workaround by using a buckle, but doesn't that just make the whole issue more unsafe. Stupid Engineering on their part.

I never took my truck in. What a stupid lame band aid. Now I'm faced with the airbag recall and there are several outstanding "service actions" listed for my truck, including that lame ass horn blowing BS. I'm going to tell the dealer that if they put that TSB in my truck, there's going to be blood on the walls....

On top of that, I spent good money replacing the front end steering system due to their death wobble issues. I sent in a claim that never even got any response. Gonna try to submit that one again.

That is a unique dilemma for sure, and quite valid to be upset about the poor programming choices Dodge made on that deal. Never been a big Dodge fan though, however.....the last two rental cars I had while out of town were Dodge Challengers. Vegas and Phoenix respectively. I actually chose it the second time because the V6 Challenger actually did ride and handle very well and I was kinda impressed with the overall function and feel of the car.

On the programming deal, we routinely take our new chassis back to the Ford dealer to "undo" the general public retard factory settings in the PCM. Much of that "auto" stuff gets removed because it's public service categorized being civic duty related. If you have a good report with a dealer service writer, ask him if he will help you undo some of those super irritating factory PCM settings. See what you can find out, and if you have any problems, perhaps I can find a friend of a friend that can do it for you.

Just a silly side note here, but I just reserved an R/T Challenger for my next trip.....V8 is gonna be a little more fun, and I'm going to treat it like a.............*rental car*.........

Couldn't find a Hellcat, but I sure do want to mess with one someday.

    Thanks,

We'll see how this works out.

Just to be clear, I'm polite but firm when I ask for things, but if they do anything I didn't ask for, then I turn ugly.

OTOH, I *would* like to get the TSB installed that lets me raise the cold idle speed using the cruise buttons...
