    Okay thanks. I have zero plans to do any work, just thought it might be something fun to achieve in future down times. How many months does it usually take?

    There's two schools in Denver. Sage and US Truck. Both are about $5,000 give or take.

    US Truck is 3 weeks long. not sure about Sage.

    Like foxtrot said, if you know someone who has a semi, you can read the Colorado CDL Manual (the state's link is down for some reason) but I can email you a copy when I get home as I have it on my home computer, and take the test but per the state you are required to take the test through an approved school. I'm pretty sure they charge a fee for the testing portion.

    Just a fair warning...If you get a CDL..do not get any tickets. Colorado does not like to give out zero points and change the ticket to a lesser violation. They usually reduce the ticket by half the points and will allow the charge to be reduced, but getting it to zero points is next to impossible.

    I found this out the hard way and it cost me a $92,000 a year job.

    I had one point too many on my license in 7 years (5 points total) and they wouldn't hire me. Even worse that 1 extra point was for a measly headlight bulb going out on my way back from Texas in my personal car. Out in the middle of Baca County at night both headlights working and it goes out and busted by a trooper (are you kidding me?). I just paid it as it wasnt a moving violation and fixed the bulb and the company didn't care. A point was a point. They only allow 4 points in 7 years to get hired.

    Also another fun fact...from the minute you get your CDL, any tickets you've had since you first got a standard drivers license in Colorado...will show up on your driving record from that date (not the date you got your CDL) and any prospective employer can see every ticket you have ever been convicted of since you started legally driving in Colorado, even if it is a non-moving violation or a moving violation. (Not sure why Colorado puts non-moving violations on driving records. All 5 of my points are non-moving violations and it cost me a damn good job. )


    If you get a CDL I highly recommend using a driver's legal service to protect your CDL.

    is the service that I use. You dont have to have a CDL to use it. You can have a standard drivers license but you have to call them to pay the subscription.

    $150 a year for CDL holders.
    $75 a year for standard drivers license.

    $100 for each ticket for minor tickets (speeding, moving violations)
    $250 for DUI/Vehicular Manslaughter and the more serious driving charges, plus whatever the court cost/fine is.

    It's definitely worth it.

    Just to hire an attorney for a reckless driving ticket is about $950+ (friend of mine got a reckless in a CMV and her lawyer charged her $950 fee to represent her plus more if they had to go to trial).

    Thanks for the break down, I was just curious what it entails. I'd probably lose the designation from tickets on the first two years anyway, but again, I have zero interest in driving trucks beyond furthering my personal knowledge of how to do so. Next time I have down time, I'll probably figure out a better way to is it than for a skill I'll likely never use. Probably welding.

    Buffalobo, don't let Jim's razing about buying a different press get to you. Dillon stuff holds value and you can resell and upgrade when you're ready!

    Just giving him the option for another dillon in the same price range that gives him the ability to load for rifle. Uses common dies, can do more and holds value. Plus the 550 has a broader base to resell to which the SDB may not.

    You guys be quiet. Mrs bo bought it for birthday gift. She already knows I need a 550 and a couple caliber conversions for rifle. Probably Anniversary or Christmas gift. She understands how important that second press is.

    Single stage is set up for 38sp which we have good inventory and don't shoot much anymore since she started collecting 9mm wheel guns.

    SDB for 9mm since we shoot alot.

    550 for rifle calibers. I can wait until after I get long range rifle set up.

    I hear you about waiting. I've had rifle reloading components for years, but have yet to even start yet.
