I tried to repair our dryer today. The motor was starting to fail, figured I could take it apart, order the motor, put it back together, hero. Well, I got it apart. Now all those parts are in a pile in the alley for the scrappers. On the bright side, I found a better used dryer for less than the motor would have cost, so maybe not such a big loss.

I've gone through a fair assortment of home made fire pits and that's one I've yet to try.

Before anyone offers me their old dryer, I'm going to do another barrel stove, but I'm going to cut my 55gal barrel in half first this time. A full size is too large.

Now, all parts but the drum are waiting for scrappers. Gonna try that firepit. Figure I oughta drill some holes in the sides for airflow. Thanks for the idea.

Your drum doesn't have holes already?

Ohhh, I'm thinking of the washer drum.

Will it take less time to drill a lot of holes, or use a grinder to cut vertical slots? Will slots weaken the structure more than holes?

Grinder sure would be faster. I bet if I don’t put too many, too close, it’ll be fine. I’ll probably take that idea too.
