I've been getting into fishing lately. I live at a well-stocked 400-acre lake with tons of bass.

Planning on buying a kayak in the Spring (or over the winter if I can find a good deal) to get out on the water for both exercise, but also to reach the fish in deeper waters.

I go through the same phase. I still haven't figured out how to fish, so I bought some cheap kayaks so I can at least be bored in a boat. You can get a cheaper, non-fishing kayak, and just buy the fishing parts online and install them yourself.

I've been wanting to get a kayak since we moved here nearly 5-yrs ago. Had a bad morning of fishing a few weeks ago (possibly a bit early in my recovery, but wasn't twisting my back so it seemed to be okay), and commented to my wife that the fish weren't biting at all. That I saw a pair of kayakers paddle by me and it just made me want to be out on the water instead of fishing. She said "well just buy a freaking kayak already, you've been talking about it for years!".

I deep debating between getting an el' cheapo Lifetime Tamarack 100 from Walmart or a Perception Pescador 12 for another $200 or so. From what I hear, the Pescador is a much better quality boat, and several places often have it on sale for $399 towards the end of the season (Labor Day), and at the beginning (Memorial Day). But, the Tamarack has quite the following online for beginners. And then, I toss around the idea about getting an even cheaper Pelican than the Tamarack, but I'm not sure I could convince my wife to let me sell the Pelican/Tamarack after 1 season to upgrade... so the Pescador it is!

How come? Didn't use it or was it a storage issue?

    That sucks!

I'm about half a mile from the closest beach, a second much larger one (with more parking and better boat ramps) is only a mile away; the road is 25-mph so no highway speeds. I have a feeling it'll be pretty easy for me to get to the water for even just an hour or two. They have kayak slips on the beaches as well, but the kayaks in the racks all look pretty damaged, so I think I'll pass.
