I went to my folk's farm in Palisade NE (tri states area) for Memorial Day weekend and decided to take off four more days as work(auto repair) was not busy and I wanted to spend some time with my Mother as she was in the hospital a week ago and was still recovering and also my brother needed to do some stuff also.
It is very dry back there and I spent a lot of time watering trees and bushes as they are hurting for water and may die.
As it turned out it was very lucky that I was there because on Friday night about 1:00 am we had a lightning strike in our pasture to the south of the farmstead. The wind was pretty strong and from the south. I called the Volunteer Fire Department from Palisade and they and the Hayes Center Fire Department came out and were able to stop the fire. They worked till sun up and had all the smoking Yucca(soapweed), cow pies and fence posts under control. It only burned a few acres but if the wind had gotten stronger it could have done a lot of damage.
I did get to shoot my AR and my DSA Greywolf. An old friend of mine helped me get the scope bore sighted on the Greywolf. I put more info in the military rifle section if you are interested.
I did figure out that the NcStar scope that came on my AR has an illuminated reticle. I had been wondering what the third knob on the left side was for.
I just didn't want to mess with it till I was in the right frame of mind to play with the buttons. Don't fix it if it isn't broken. I work on cars for a living and have found out the hard way. It is amazing how many driver side power windows will go down and not roll up. And people live with this!
At least put a strip of tape on the control button so I don't have to pull the door panel to get it closed.
I hope every one had a good Memorial Day. We must never forget the sacrifices that are made to make this country what it is. My home town just dedicated a very nice memorial to the veterans from the area. My Father was stationed in Saipan after the island was secured. My uncle was in the Navy but I don't know where he was.
