Default Need opinions on this set up

I have a line on this rifle and scope that seems like a good deal. I found more information on the rifle, the scope seems to have different options. I may need to act fast on this opportunity. Any advice or experiences when looking over and negotiating?

I am selling my Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 caliber. It has a 20 inch heavy contour barrel, x-mark pro trigger, and a 3x9x42 SWFA SS mil dot matte Scope. I am selling the rifle for $500 obo and the scope for $150. I have fired under 100 rounds through this rifle.

The price of the rifle is within $150 of new (www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/94560), the scope is mediocre. The rings and base may or may not have any value.

Of course, it would cost more to put this identical rig together new... but, used optics of this quality fetch very little resale.

Hence my reply , the SS scopes are very good quality for the money , like I said good starter set up and fair money . The typical internet philosphy of everything having to be half price on resale is unrealistic in my opinion .

I assume since you are posting in the long range section that long range shooting is the intended application for this rifle. If so, a 9X scope is probably way underpowered. I'd consider a magnification of 14X-16X to be the minimum for a long range/precision rifle.

It's a fair deal, not a super hot deal in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The scope I'm not set on. I'm thinking of this rifle for multiple uses, one of which is trying my hand at long distance. I haven't been able to talk to the guy yet.

I have to totally disagree with this comment. I have a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X. The holdovers are only accurate at 22X which is too much on a hot day. The mirage is awful. I was told I should get the 15X when I purchased my scope, but I thought I needed the extra power. I really wish I would have listened. My next scope will be the 3.5-15X FFP scope from Nightforce. 10X will easily get you to 1000.

I know many people who shoot long range with the 15X Nightforce. It's plenty.

Agreed - M24's came with McMillan 2.5-10x when they were delivered to us. and then the 300 winmag AI came with a NF 3-15x

Plus our M107 only had a 12x on it

As noted it is not a smoking deal but it is not a bad deal.
