OK, so whoever is going to be point man in contacting Mike Johnson, step forward.
Let us know how the communication goes and we can support you with email floods as needed.

honestly I expect any comments to simply be ignored

I sent emails to Mr. Johnson as well as Mr. Calahan

(Also emailed the Boulder Ranger district)

I only got a reply from Calahan

He stated that some Allenspark residents wanted it moved and there were several options being considered

    umm. please back this up.

I believe that 1 of 2 things is happening here
    1) There must be 2 places to shoot near 7&72 and people are getting them mixed up
    2) There was a landfill NEAR the 7&72 range and people are just saying "well, it is less than a mile away so it is the same place".

I only know of one place to shoot at 7&72, and I would have to say that if the place that I know of was a land fill, it had to have been over 50-75 years ago - back in the day when it didnt make sense to haul your garbage up to 8,000 feet...like today...

Also, using google earth, I just measured the range there. It is only about a football field in length and width. Hardly large enough for a landfill.
    Here is the link:

In my estimation there is zero evidence that the range there is an old dump. The land there is nearly solid rock...well..crumbly rock, but still quite a pain the ass to dig a hole in. There are no access roads, there are trees everywhere that have been there for decades.

Also, 7&72 is right on a main Tourist drive - who would want a landfill right there?

Off the road down by Raymond makes more sense.

I recall a while back that someone had posted pictures of the 7&72 spot back in the '60s or '70s; I believe there was even a shot of a bear? although I could be wrong on that. Along with the pictures, there was info that stated that the area was a landfill for a time. I agree with you that it would have to have been dormant for quite a while, but I think several decades would be time enough to get to the way it is now. Does anyone else remember these pictures/info or am I just FOS?

I could easily see it as an old landfill

Just look at how the land falls away on the far side

It looks just like it was " built up"
