Hillbilly wind chimes refer to steel targets hanging from chains. I would like to give it a try, does anyone have some old leaf springs?Try Spring steel. The kind used in leaf springs in pick up trucks or better yet dump trucks or school busses. I found a place that specializes in fixing the suspension on heavy trucks and they let me have a bunch of their scrap.
I have shot 30.06 at it and it does not scratch the metal. 223 leaves a very small crater maybe a few thousandths deep. Unfortunately, it can not be welded but for hillbilly wind chimes it would work great.
Dang MP5, that sounds real good. I know several decent junkyards where they will get you just about anything you want.
Can't be welded? I'd have to ask a welder about that but that doesn't sound right.
Now, about the safety of shooting metal targets... does one just do this at a good distance so ricochet/splatter doesn't get you? What are the do's & don'ts of shooting 223 or 9 at metal targets?
