Picked up one of the CMP barreled actions, waiting on a PT&G bolt.
Probably just going to shoot to 100yds. Maybe shoot the Pueblo PD/Sniper 22LR side match. Have no idea on drop, what moa base/scope travel will I need?
What ammo?
Thanks

Hey Kev,
I'm borrowing a 40X at the moment, been shooting it for months now. I swap it into my AICS for the perfect trainer.
It shoots Eley Target sub moa. Down at the OTC, it'll put 60 shots in a row into 1/2" at 50m. It'd put them all into 3/8" if the driver didn't stink.
You don't need a canted base for 100y, but I think you'll eventually want to shoot it longer. I have a 20 moa base on my Savage trainer, and that gets me to about 250 yards with the same Eley ammo. If I had it to do over, I'd get 25 or 30 moa. Get all the elevation you can in the scope, you'll need it if you do decide to go long.
Wolf ammo also has a good reputation, as do some other I can't seem to recall at the moment. Check the rimfire section at the hide.
I'm buying the Eley at just under $50 for 500. I can probably get some for you if you like.

Tim, thanksfor the advice.
28" stock barrel on the 40x you're shooting? Two piece or one piece base? If one piece, plenty of room to load?
I'll be swapping it into my AICS as well using the same trigger as my 6.5CM.
I'll take you up on the ammo once I get it together.
Kevin
The barrel is unknown, but it might be stock. It sure doesn't look like anything special. I put a 1 piece base on the savage, and that works great. Does the 40 use standard 700 style bases?

The 40x is the same foot print as a 700, uses the same base, trigger, stock...

I have a 40X that I rebarreled with a Lilja titebore 16 twist.
Very fun to shoot and very accurate. Accurate right up there with my Anschutz rifles.
If we do any more 22 side matches, it will be after the 4th Sunday rifle matches. There just has not been enough interest to justify doing it every month.
