Thread: Area 500

  1. #1

    Default Area 500

I'd like to speak with anyone who knows anything about hunting in this area. My friends and I all camp around the Michigan Creek area and this year we drew 2nd season elk..no buck tags though...grrrrr. I've got the maps for this area and we plan on scouting 3-5 times prior to October but any help/suggestions you could pm me would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    DJ

We’ve been hunting 500 for a couple years now and always have good luck around the Reinecker Ridge area.

Reineker Ridge is in unit 50, south side of 285 just past Como.

So before last year I always ended up with people who loved to road hunt. So my experience level for hunting is very low.

Needless to say I got a few friends out last year and we did Area 54 in Gunnison (due to messing up group draw, kills ya every time). We were the only ones who saw anything and that terrain has to be some of the toughest I've hiked through since survival school, we ended up in a massive blizzard and came home about 3 hours before they closed Monarch pass.

My main question was answered by Mtn Man, thanks! But I still have others when it comes to mainly 2nd season. I don't expect calls to work, but what about scent sprays, dips, or anything like that?

Appreciate the help guys. I just want the best possible experience. I'm also the only one with a cow tag so it's gonna be an interesting few days.

Ive hunted 55 east of gunnison one year, with some neo roadhunters as well. The wife and I are looking at 511, so we dont have to drive so far to hunt this year. Gonna watch this thread.
