.45 Cal uppers

Anyone know of any others besides the Olympic Arms .45 upper? Theirs only seems to be in A2 and taking modded Uzi mags only holding 10 rounds.

Ideally I'd like to see a A3/4 flat top and accepting Thompson or other higher cap mags.

Oly makes flat top 45ACP uppers or complete rifles, collapsable stock or A2.

As far as the mag capacity being limited, there are a few folks making mag well blocks to accept different style mags. The main problem is a standard AR lower is not wide enough for most hi-cap 45ACP mags. The exception is a Cav Arms lower is a little larger in the mag well.

Something similar is done with Thompson mags but is has a rail to work with the Thompson mags and the reciever is cut to accept the wider mag as well as drums.

Thanks for the pointer, hadn't even thought about Grease Gun mags.. and on an entertaining note, it's the girlfriend that said it had to be .45 and not "that sissy 9mm crap" :roll:

Convince her to get a 10mm AR upper instead....I know 200 grains instead of 230 but way more velocity. There is a lot of full house ammo out there that makes me question the 45ACP.....Oly makes these too.

On a side note, I have a 9mm upper because I wanted that 32 round capacity. If you reload you can obtain 1300ft/sec easy with 147 grain bullets when you reload for a rifle. That's 650ft/lbs of evergy at the muzzle which is 200 ft/lbs more than a 45ACP 230 grain fired out of a pistol at 900ft/sec. The 9mm is waaay cheaper to practice with too.

If you reload the 45ACP for a rifle you can get 1300ft/sec out of the 185 grain bullet, but weirdly the larger bullets (200-230grain) even when loaded for the rifle have less velocity out of the rifle than a handgun...at least according to the Sierra Manual, Edition V, Second printing.

I kinda want a 10mm and a 45ACP upper though too.

I'm still leaning towards the cheaper 9mm. It's really just going to be a practice upper anyway. She's become a .45 nut.. not saying I didn't influence that, but she really likes my little Taurus PT145 and has officially named 9mm as a sissy round

10mm would be great but the extra cost for ammo and components might not be worth it honestly. I'm still working on getting her comfortable with the .223 AR's. Considering she's only been shooting for 6 months now and has made a great transition from .22 to 9mm to .45 I'm fairly happy with her choice of rounds. [postal]
