    Default .22 "Survival" pistol

I'd like to get myself a .22 pistol I can keep in my bug out pack. I'm pretty sure I want a Ruger target model of some sort but I'm not sure on the optimal barrel length, improvements or accessories. I've seen pistols doing Google searches with everything from lasers to red dot sights, tactical lights etc. What are you guys using for this type of thing? Pic's and details would be great. I picked up the 1911 milspec I've been looking for so I'm thinking about trying to swap my Detonics Combat Master for the "Survival" pistol.

I have always been partial to the Browning Buckmark myself.

I've carried a Ruger RST 4" and a 6" (which was stolen). I had a Leupold 2x on the 6", but I really prefered the 4" for ease of carry.

I now mostly carry a S&W J frame Mdl 60 .357 loaded with .38 spl. It has a 3" barrel and is quite accurate. I carry 125 gr hollow points normally loaded and some solids for blue grouse, rabbits and squirrels. When pheasant hunting during early opening hot days when rattlesnakes are out, I load it with shot. I does a much better job on snakes than the shotgun. The pattern is much more open at close range.

I reload, so the .38 spl is a reasonably priced load. It is not as cheap as the .22 for practice, but it is more versatile IMO.

Try the Ruger 22/45 Hunter model in stainless. Various barrel lengths, get some optics and you have your survival backpack Hunter!
