This would mean getting another caliber, and adding it to the backlog of guns which I haven't had time to take out and shoot for the first time (only three at the moment) ops:

Is there anything that makes these particularly desireable or cool, and other than a flashlight in the bore anythign to watch out for? I always enjoy taking something new apart and seeing how the parts interact (dork), not sure how much engineering goodness there to appreciate with these.

Cheap surplus ammo doesn't really matter, can stock up on the common calibers much faster than I can possibly shoot with the current schedule.

Big 5 is right across the street, could walk there in a few minutes...just need a reason why. "because" might just be good enough

With the right Ammo, it makes a really big fireball when You shoot it it in low light conditions. :mrgreen:

Forget lowlight, I've seen (and felt) the fireball out of your M44 in broad daylight!

The 7.62x54 is a pretty powerful round. The fireballs the M44 throws are wicked. They come with a bayonet. They are only $89. Can't think of any reason not to own one or ten.

Hmmm, more than two take up room in the vault for other must have toys. Like the Enfield 2A that AIM is selling. Mine should be here by weeks end (I hope). I'm finding that to be an issue. Not even a year since I got my 26 gun vault and It's full. I may need another one for Christmas......

XJ, I feel your pain in the shooting them dept. I haven't shot several of mine for a while now, I haven't shot my Springfield M1903 at all...... Which BTW is sold out @ CMP and they aren't taking any more orders......

I agree w/ ARWill. They send a pretty mean fireball, and do some damage to steel targets (oops) too.

XJ...I've got a pre-war 91/30 and a wartime production M38.

I find the differences in machining between the two fairly interesting. My wartime (1943) M38 evidences the desperate (think 'Siege of Stalingrad') efforts that the Russians were putting into making enough small arms to save their country.

Recently, I read that the Mosin-Nagant's bolt is very likely the most complex ever designed. The machining involved with making the bolt must have involved many steps...yet it is relatively simple in function.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for the technical afficianados among us.
