Terrible pic, but behold my new (well used) Aimpoint Comp M2 in the most tactical of configurations.

Had the Springfield RO Elite Compact for a few months now, last weekend picked up it's big brother, the Operator version also in 9. Even more fun to shoot!

Wife: My brakes feel weird. Can you look at them?
    Me: Quantify "weird"
Wife: Oh, they just make a funny sound at the stop lights and when I pull into the garage.
Me: When did you notice this?
Wife: It just started this morning.

For those of us who don't know what we're looking at. What do the pictures show?

JohnnyEgo is it just the one brake or both sides. Frozen caliper piston maybe or even just the slider pin seized? Anyway, the one pad looks new while the other is gone....no bueno

    Edit to add:
Nevernind it looks like you're showing the old worn pad against a new one. Those brakes had to be squealing way before this morning...lol.

About $400 in parts and three consecutive hours of swearing punctuated by brief periods of wildly swinging a sledge hammer while eating a lung full of rust and asbestos. Otherwise known as replacing all four rotors and disc brake pads on my wife's minivan.

Yep. New pad against old one. They may not have been squealing before this morning, because I am betting the squealers got worn down and then snapped off by heat and metal fatigue while carving a track in the rotors.

Rear brakes were much, much worse than the front ones, which surprised me because I would have thought the proportioning would be heavier towards the front discs. That was the worst of all the pads; driver's rear inner. But I don't think it was from a stuck caliper. It ratcheted back into position relatively smoothly, and the sliders were in good shape. Last time I redid the rears, I replaced the calipers and the rear brake lines, so the boots were still intact and had plenty of grease when I pulled them. What I do suspect with regard to the wear is that the van has been driven more than a mile or two with the parking brake engaged.

Old - new disc pads, which were on the metal backing plate they're bonded to. Looks like he replaced the rotors and possibly calipers as well.

I really dislike doing the brake with wear sensor triggered.

    Are most wives like that?

Me: (First time driving her car for months) How long have your brakes been grinding like that?
Her: What are you talking about?
Me: Don't you hear and feel that when you push the brake pedal?
Her: What? What noise? It sounds normal.
Me: Yeah. It sounds normal because they've been doing it so long. (Shakes head)
Her: Well how much is THAT gonna cost me?
Me: A helluva lot more than it would've 3 months ago.
