WOW...can't believe you just kicked this guy in the balls like that . Shit happens, and he at least had the responsibility to post the thread in hopes that someone here would be decent enough to lend him help, not push him down and call him fat. By the way, ever heard of "karma?"

It's honestly a lot nicer than the stuff that was running through my head the first time I read this thread.

Shit definitely happens but I'd expect a lot worse responses if I posted a similar screw up.

I hear ya, it's just that I know there had to be more to the story than what was originally posted (which is why I think it's better to err on the side of caution before someone starts mud slinging). We are all human, and prone to slip up from time to time, and yes, sometimes a swift kick in the arse is justified. Other times maybe a bit of compassion goes a lot further (considering I think this guy already felt dumber than a box of hammers for leaving a rifle at the range).

My thought is, we are all on this forum because we are like-minded people with similar interests (for the most part). In this case, I just thought kicking him in the teeth right out of the chute was a bit much.

Not that I ever hope to have this happen to me, but if it were to...I suppose I know not to post it here in hopes of seeking help unless I want to get flamed?

My hats off to those that posted positive comments and best wishes for this user who did get his rifle back! AMEN to that!

SQUEEZE--I stand by my original statement. Nonetheless- I am damn glad that he got it back and that it did not get into the wrong hands. You can call me an asshole if you want, but I know that if I did the same thing, I would be kicking myself in the ass (or worse) for being stupid and irresponsible. Wouldn't you? What did we all (maybe not all) call that cop out east who left his fully automatic AR on the trunk of his patrol car and drove down the street with it? Would you yourself call that stupid- or irresponsible- or both? Wonder what his write-up was for, stupidity or irresponsibility? Not trying to belabor the point, but if you're going to call me an asshole, I'm probably going to respond. I know that I triple-check my shooting area now as I leave, as opposed to double-checking before. Beyond that, I'd loan you the shirt off my back if you needed it.

This is always my worst nightmare. I always look like a dumbass when I get in the truck, back up, get nervous, and get out and look all over again.

I am glad that you got it back!!! There are some good people out there!

    Thanks for the good vibes...

There's not much more to the story than I posted. Combine 4+ hours at the range and 2-3 rifles each, plus pistols, plus gear bags and you are talking a lot of stuff to pack up for tired folk.

Its more common than people think too. Someone left a $1500 Kimber there not to long before I did mine. If I do it again, then feel free to bag on me something fierce. It was MY responsibility to check MY gear and not rely and my buddy to verify all the gear was accounted for.

The thing that makes this a happy (& not sad) story is due mostly in part to the Chaffee people and range. There are some great folks there and a beautiful range to boot.
