Default What gun for mountain lions?

Just discovered a hiking area near my house that I believe contains mountain lions and perhaps other wildlife.

I'm wondering if I'm carrying enough gun for a possible confornation with one. So what is a reasonably effective round for these types of creatures?

Mountain lions are thin skinned animals a 357 mag and up would be more than enough at close range. If you shoot one better hope you can prove to DOW it was infact self defense or you are in big trouble.

Personally I would get a can of pepper spray for bears if that stops grizzlys I have no doubt it would stop a mountain lion. I would still carry a gun also.

VERY LONG STORY MADE VERY SHORT. DO NOT shoot a mountain lion in the head with a .38special+P. It WILL piss him off at you. I concur, absolutely no less than .357Mag. Karl. [poke]

Shotgun with 000 buck, Peppespray or a revo in 41/44. Maybe a glock in 40 loaded with spicey stuff.

What about a subcompact .45?? .. several of those out there these days and they're carrying 10+1 for the most part too.

That's exactly the sort of thing I bought this for.

I hike with liberals in Boulder, so for the time being I'm stuck with my IWB holster and .45 loaded with Speer Gold Dots. ops:

For most animals, including bears and mountain lions, the noise is all it's gonna take. I carried my 45 for years when in the woods, but it had 16+1. Karl.
